Canyon Road - the Heart & Soul of Santa Fe

Just how does one begin to tell a centuries-old story... of color, dust, intrigue, cowboy bar fights, wagon wheels creaking, church bells pleading, beguiling scents, seductive stories and passionate adventures?

Without saying, there are a million such secrets and tales from beckoning ghosts on this particular street – the oldest in America and certainly among the most exciting and compelling – which repeatedly stands out above all other calles and boulevards from lesser travels across the globe. This is Canyon Road – the heart and soul of Santa Fe!

Main EntryAs you pass the famous restaurant Geronimo, swing by El Farol (the oldest bar in town) and stroll by the final art gallery and the fantastic tea/coffee house across the street, the road narrows and a long wall with an inviting archway emerges among tumbling lilacs and rose blossoms. Welcome to 906 Canyon Road...

If these two-foot-thick adobe walls could talk, they’d read like the pages of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel. Over one hundred and fifty years of celebration, inspiration, cultural diversity, creativity and imagination have lovingly transformed this historic adobe compound into an enchanting residence of unequaled style, beauty and character.

Awarded “Santa Fe’s Best Remodel in the Historic District” in 1995.
Passing through the main house’s inviting, rose-draped archway and entering the front door is like stepping back in time. A century-and-a-half of perfectly-preserved architectural wonder!

Main House Cantina

Rumor has it that back when it was cool to carry a side arm, this magical residence was a brothel, bar and dance hall. Whether this is true or not is still somewhat of a mystery, but when you first walk into this magnificent 2,400 square-foot, 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath home's elegant, expansive living room, you might just be suddenly overcome with an urge to kick up your heels and start two stepping with the nearest señor or señorita! Gorgeous original brick floors with a patina that looks like fine leather. Unusually high ceilings with magnificent vigas and a tremendous centrally-located fireplace! When the party really gets caliente, you can take it out into the splendid courtyard, beautifully landscaped gardens, and covered "cantina" on the west side of the living room.

The amazing, thoughtfully-designed chef’s eat-in kitchen has enough bells and whistles to start a five star restaurant.
Pine plank floors, cozy kiva fireplace, old-world cabinets, granite island, ample pantry and adjacent guest bath.

The master bath is a romantic, spacious, oasis of comfort.
There are double pedestal sinks, a classic claw foot tub and separate slate-lined shower.
Connected by saloon doors is a separate European “water closet” with bidet and custom laundry facilities/cabinetry.

Tucked behind its own gate, amid age-old fruit trees, lies an adobe guest house built by two Taos Indians in the 1940s... original in structure, passionate in spirit, unbelievably quiet and peaceful. The legend goes that long ago and shortly before their deaths, these two Indians came calling – quite unannounced – one Christmas Eve to dance and drum the night away in utter joy and abandonment. Seated under the courtyard’s ancient pear tree,
one may certainly feel their joy, perhaps even... hear their music.
